Neck Lift Questions
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a series of surgeries performed in conjunction with each other in order to rid the neck of excess or sagging skin.
What surgeries will I need to achieve my cosmetic goals?
At your initial consultation with Dr. Daria Hamrah, he will examine your current neck condition and discuss your goals and expectations. Based on this evaluation, he will determine the appropriate surgeries required for your neck lift.
Who is a candidate for a neck lift?
A variety of situations may have left you with residual neck fat. Common neck lift candidates have undergone one or more of the following life changing situations:
- Significant weight loss
- Facelift
What risks are associated with neck lifts?
Like any cosmetic surgery, complications may arise, such as:
- Anesthesia problems
- Swelling and bruising around the enhanced region
- Displeasure with the outcome
- Unattractive scarring
Therefore, it is essential to perform thorough research and choose the right surgeon to ensure your cosmetic goals are met.
What types of surgeries are used for a neck lift?
Dr. Hamrah typically performs three types of surgeries for neck lift patients. The appropriate surgery for you depends on your cosmetic goals and current health conditions.
The types of surgeries used by Dr. Hamrah during neck lifts are:
- Liposuction
- Cervicoplasty
- Platysmaplasty
When is liposuction used for a neck lift?
Liposuction is used to remove excess neck fat. When performed in conjunction with other surgeries, liposuction is generally the first procedure.
What is cervicoplasty?
Cervicoplasty is a technique employed to remove excess skin in the neck region. When significant fat is removed, skin often sags.
In order for excess skin to be removed, Dr. Hamrah will make an incision beneath the chin, cut and lift excess skin and secure it in place with sutures. Recovery typically takes ten days and involves swelling and bruising around the incision.
What is platysmaplasty?
Platysmaplasty is used to realign neck muscles into a more cosmetically appealing position. As we age the skin as well as the muscles underneath loose their elasticity and tension. As a result excess skin and/or muscle will have a “turkey-gobbler” appearance to them.
