Restylane

As you age, your skin will continue to lose elasticity and fullness, and you may notice the development of fine lines and wrinkles, and then deeper wrinkles and sagging skin. However, understanding why this occurs allows us to treat the appearance of age by replacing the natural substances that your skin begins to lose as it ages. Restylane is one of the few dermal fillers which replaces the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid that makes your skin look full and youthful.

Hyaluronic Acid

Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid at a rate of about 5 grams a day and maintains about 15 grams on average. One of the primary functions of hyaluronic acid is making your skin look full and youthful. Your skin’s elasticity, or its ability to return to its original shape, is what creates this youthful appearance, but is lost as your body produces less hyaluronic acid as you age.

While many dermal fillers may achieve similar effects to hyaluronic acid, Restylane is one of only a few dermal fillers actually made up of hyaluronic acid. Restylane treatments actually replace what your body naturally begins to lose over time, returning the youthful look to your skin in the most natural way possible. Also, because Restylane is comprised of an ingredient naturally produced by your skin, the instances of negative reactions are much lower than in many other types of dermal filler.

Administering Restylane is a non-surgical treatment that consists of a series of shallow injections under the skin. This may cause temporary swelling or redness which are a common side-effect of injections, however allergic reaction is extremely rare and allergy testing is not required by the FDA.

Dr. Hamrah will inject the Restylane into the desired areas, and the results will be immediately visible and last for up to several weeks. Restylane is approved not only for fine lines and wrinkles, but for deeper creases and folds, such as the nasolabial folds around the nose.

Restylane treatment is an outpatient procedure and usually requires less than an hour to perform, but the effects can last up to six months. For these reasons and many others most patients prefer Restylane treatment to treatment by other leading types of facial filler. You can learn more by visiting Restylane vs. Other Fillers.
