Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial reconstructive surgery is reconstructive surgery on the entire facial region, including the underlying bony structures such as facial bones and jaw. While it typically is performed to improve functionality, it can be done to boost self-esteem and quality of life by creating a more “normal” appearance. Internationally, this surgery is recognized as a surgical specialty, and specialists in oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery have undergone extensive education and training.

Candidacy for Maxillofacial Reconstructive Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery is performed to correct a wide spectrum of injuries, defects, and deformities in the head, neck, face, and jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Typically, patients are recovering from a facial trauma, cancer, or have a congenital defect.

Dr. Hamrah performs reconstructive jaw surgery on accident victims, trauma victims, post-tumor removal, and corrective surgery after an initial surgery proves unsuccessful.

The scope of maxillofacial reconstructive surgery includes the diagnosis, surgical treatment, restoration and preservation of bone and muscle functionality, and maintaining facial aesthetics.
